Apart from the earwig (described in an earlier blog), I also found this small cockroach under the damp leaf pile in Minhang Park. I recognized this cockroach as Blattella germanica (aka the German Cockroach), one of the two most common cockroaches in my area (the other one is Periplaneta americana, also known as the American Cockroach). These small pests are common indoors in any place where there is filth, and I remember encountering them in old warehouses I explored for fun on field trips. However, they are pretty rare in the wild, and this is my first time seeing them in a non-man-made habitat.
