It’s Koishi day! Well, I managed to find this spiky caterpillar on the pavement in front of my house under a camphor tree after a brief rain. Probably brought down by the wind. These Limacodidae caterpillars are easily recognized by their spikes and green bodies, also they are known to tuck their heads in their body, making their heads not visible unless they are feeding. This type of caterpillar has given me painful experiences due to their sharp poisonous spikes when I was small, I remember at that time I was fooling around and fell into a pile of leaves, and unfortunately there were like ten or so caterpillars in the leaf pile, and I felt as if my face and hands were on fire after having contact with them. The last photo is a cocoon of the caterpillars, sometimes these cocoons are infested with parasitic wasps and have holes on it. Opening these infested cocoons you could see a couple maggots wriggling in the decayed fleshinside, pretty creepy. The cocoon I took a picture on was not infested, as we can see that there is a large hole on it, meaning that the caterpillar successfully emerged and flew away.
