Common Earwig(普通蠼螋)

I spotted this Common Earwig in Minhang Park on a cold, sunny October afternoon. Flipping over the damp leaves drenched with last night’s rain, I spotted this interensting ground boreer bug. Earwigs got their name from a myth which said that these bugs will try to burrow into one’s ear at night if one does not close his/her door. Well, in real life earwigs are actually harmless insects, despite they may seem dangerous due to the fierce-looking pincer at the end of their tails, which mainly acts as a defense weapon and is actually pretty powerless if you ask me (I tested it on my pinkie, and it didn’t even penetrate my skin). Also, these bugs are poisonless and are actually relatively shy, instead of trying to crawl into one’s ear, they will most likely try to run away if they are put close to a human.
